Mission
Student Support Service (SSS) at Texas State University-San Marcos provised student development and educational support services in order to increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible college students (first-generation, low income and students with disabilities).

SSS will be a model program, nationally recognized for best practices and strategies in promoting retention and graduation of its participants.
What is Student Support Services?
Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Student Support Services (SSS) is part of the TRIO Programs. The TRIO/Student Support Services program at Texas State University-San Marcos is 100% federally funded at $293,864 annually. Students participating in this program will benefit from the various activities designed to improve their academic performance and enhance their college experience which will ultimately lead to graduation. SSS assists eligible first-generation college students, low income students and students with disabilities from all racial and ethnic backgrounds who have a need for academic and other support services in order to successfully complete their college education. Student Support Services' goals are:
- To increase retention and graduation rates for first-generation college students, low income students and students with disabilities
- To foster an institutional climate supportive of success of first-generation college students, low income students and students with disabilities
Eligibility Requirements
You may qualify for our services if:
- You are a US citizen or legal resident
- You have a need for academic support
- And one or more of the following apply to you:
- You are a first-generation college student (neither parent has a four-year degree) or
- You meet low income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education or
- You have a documented physical or learning disability on file with the Office of Disability Services or Texas Rehabilitation Commission.
But how much will all this cost me?
All services are FREE and are available to students accepted to the program. Participants need only a strong commitment and desire to succeed at Texas State. The services we provide can accelerate students on their way to success. For more information, please call 512.245.2275.

To apply for services:
- Drop by the SSS office (LBJ Student Center, 5-6.1) or click on SSS Forms for an application.
- If accepted, student will be notified by e-mail and letter.
All applicants who meet eligibility requirements will be considered for program acceptance. However, our program only admits a limited number of students per year. Students are encouraged to apply prior to or early in the fall semester.
Veteran Friendly Office
Student Support Services staff have completed training in order to better understand issues facing veterans as well as to provide assistance to our veteran students.
