![]() | In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, MSA provides and sponsors a MLK Freedom March and Celebration Program to honor the legacy of Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., an American civil rights leader. Also known as MLK Day of Service, this day is a United States federal holiday observed nationally on third Monday of January each year. Each year, Americans are encouraged to participate in service to their communities and neighborhoods. The MLK Freedom March at Texas State begins at Old Main and concludes in LBJ Student Center Ballroom. Local high school and Texas State students, organizations, faculty and staff reenact a march similar to those conducted during the Civil Rights Movement. Upon conclusion of the march, participants enjoy a celebration program held in the LBJSC Ballroom that honors Dr. King, Civil Rights leaders and their impact on our civil liberties. The MLK Commemoration Celebration will be Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Please visit the MSA Calendar for more information about time and location. |
